Christmas Lizzies

350g Seedless raisins
125ml Bourbon whiskey
60g Butter or margarine
100g brown sugar
2 eggs
180g Flour
1 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp Ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp Ground mace
1/2 tsp Ground nutmeg
400g Pecan nuts or walnuts
400g Candied cherries



Put raisins in a small pot and pour whiskey over them. Cover and leave stand overnight. Strain the next day.

Whisk butter or margarine, sugar and eggs together. Add flour and baking powder to the mix. Add ground mace and nutmeg. After dough is mixed evenly add raisins, nuts and cherries. Spray baking sheet. With a teaspoon make teaspoon size drops on the baking sheet. Set into preheated oven (325˚C) on the middle rack and bake for 20 minutes.
Makes about 70 cookies.
Lizzies are a typical Christmas cookie found in New England.
