“Riinng! Riinng! Riinng!” I yelled in my metallic voice, which, by the way, is my speciality. Seeing that nobody came running, I repeated myself. Honestly, I don’t know what is up with humans. It always takes them so long to pick up my good friends, Mouthpiece and Earpiece. As for me, I’m just known as – well, honestly, I’m not sure. Although, I do look really boxy, so I’m going to call myself The Box. Not very elegant, but it’ll work. Now, where was I?
Ahh, yes! I was ringing. After I had repeated myself a second time, somebody finally came running. Breathlessly, Mrs. Turner picked up my friends and spoke. “Hello?” I’m not sure if I mentioned it already or not, but, since I am the main box, and everything goes through me, I get to hear every word of the conversation. And, currently, nothing was being said. Now that was very strange.
“Hello?” Mrs. Turner repeated.
Finally, a faint “Hello” came through. Then it came again, louder this time, and I could tell it was from a young boy. “Excuse me, ma’am, but your cow is in my garden.”
I was confused. Mrs. Turner had a cow? I thought she lived in a town, very close to her neighbours. I didn’t think she would have enough room for a cow, but, then again, I am just a contraption on the wall, so what would I know.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Turner was replying, “Sorry, but I don’t have a cow. Perhaps–”
The boy interrupted. “Oh, is that so? Well, I just found out that I don’t even have a garden!” He cackled as though it was the most hilarious thing ever and hung up.
Mrs. Turner replaced my dear friends and sat down on a nearby chair. “The nerve,” she muttered.
I totally agreed with her; I always do. Although, exactly what I was agreeing to, I wasn’t sure. And what about the boy? How can he have a cow in his garden if he doesn’t even have a garden? I truly don’t understand, and the way it’s going now, it’ll keep me up all night. Aargh!
Well, I suppose I should wrap it up here and try to figure out why Mrs. Turner is laughing now. What is up with humans? RR
